Allen Iverson was born on June 7th 1975 in Hampton, Virginia in the United States. He was raised by a single mother and born when she was just 15 years old. He showed talent in both Basketball and American football in high school when he led both teams to the Virginia state championship during his junior year. He spent four months in prison in 1994 for allegedly hitting a woman with a chair in a bowling alley. Despite this incident he got a scholarship from Georgetown University where he became Big East Rookie of the year in 1994/95. Following his sophomore year he declared for the 1996 NBA draft while setting the record for Points per game at his college with 22,9.
Allen Iverson was drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1996 as the first overall pick. He was and still is the shortest (183cm) and lightest (75kg) first pick in NBA draft history. Iverson scored more than 40 points in each of his first 5 games, breaking Wilt Chamberlain's record of three. He was never able to win a NBA championship even while scoring 28,5 points per game because the teams he played with were not able to provide him the help he needed. After a 3-2 playoff loss against the Boston Celtics he famously went on a rant because his coach called him out for missing practice. He used the word practice 14 times during the rant and the most famous quote that came out of it was “We’re sitting here, I’m supposed to be the franchise player, and we’re in here talking about practice”. Iverson retired in 2013 after 14 years in the NBA.
